Mariners Harbor Greenway

May 18, 2019 - June 29, 2019

In Mariners Harbor, there was an abandoned lot that negatively affected the quality of life for residents. It was a dumping ground, an eyesore to the community, and was unusable by the public due to high weeds, trash, and rodent infestation. With this in mind, the group submitted and was awarded a Love Your Block grant from Citizen Committee for NYC to transform the lot. After doing diligent research, navigating the city and government, establishing local partnerships, recruiting about 30 volunteers, and getting an outpour of support from the community, the beautification project led to the birth of the Mariners Harbor Greenway. The repurpose space now features a Little Free Library, wood chips, painted tire beds, flowers, patio pavers, and artificial grass. Most importantly, the once-forgotten space is now a beautiful area for the community to enjoy.
